VIVE Arts Renews Its Presence at Art Basel in Basel

, Art Basel in Basel

Following two presentations at Art Basel Hong Kong as a VR Partner, this June VIVE Arts debuts at Art Basel in Basel with two VR works from renowned artists Albert Oehlen and Wu Tsang. VIVE Arts will be showcasing these two works in a dedicated lounge located in Hall 1 of Messe Basel.

Albert Oehlen is one of the most important and innovative artists working with the canvas from the 1980s to the present. Oehlen’s first VR work entitled Basement Drawing captures the artist at work with his avatar in his Pasadena basement workspace painting with. In this piece, the artist reveals himself at work and closes the distance between himself and the viewer, as well as reality and fiction. Basement Drawing is curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist, Artistic Director, Serpentine, and developed by MacInnes Studios.

Following her acclaimed commission Of Whales for the Venice Biennale, filmmaker Wu Tsang presents her first VR work with VIVE Arts at Basel. A mighty mass emerges is a 15 minute VR work displayed on Flow glasses that is born from the same subject matter as Of Whales: Herman Melville’s Moby Dick. The viewer will be able to experience the underwater world from a whale’s perspective. Tsang harnesses the power of XR technologies to create a novel world in which her storytelling power is optimized to its most mesmerizing potential.
